📢 Hear us out! 📢 An African feminist message to the WTO

Dr Lesley Ann Foster reacts to the weak commitments made by the European Union ahead of the World Trade Organization General Council meeting today with regard to the African Union’s main request: adopt the TRIPS Waiver and make mRNA and other technology available.

Dr Foster is the founder and Director of Masimanyane Women’s Rights International, which hosts the International Network to End Violence Against Women and Girls (INEVAWG), both of which are partners of the #Fem4PeoplesVaccine campaign.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of vaccine access in the continent has worsened the violence to which African women are subjected. As health and care workers, they have been more exposed to the virus and become more indebted. They have seen their income shrink and they are victims of acts of physical and other types of violence by their partners.
