On this November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the #Fem4PeoplesVaccine campaign celebrates feminist activists who sow solidarity even amid adversities.

Listen to Fatou Baldeh, founder of WILL, Women In Liberation and Leadership, based in the Gambia, where she advocates with and supports survivors of sexual and gendered-based violence.

Grassroots activism was crucial to respond to the pandemic when most governments failed to offer democratic approaches based on public health principles. This will be remembered as the time the global North turned its back on the global South, hoarding vaccines and refusing to share life-saving technology, exploiting photo-op charity in a shameful PR campaign. In the meantime, the pandemics had disproportionate gendered effects. Today we pause to reflect on these.
