The US hit the snooze button as the world cries for help 😴💤

Lifting mask mandates, defunding international aid to fight #COVID-19, cutting down their own national health budget. The superpower has waved a checkered flag on the pandemic, wishing its end into existence. It’s great for the ultra-rich in the North, but has terrible effects on low and middle-income countries.

May 5th marked one year since President Joe Biden announced US support for the TRIPS waiver at the World Trade Organization. But has the US walked the talk?

In a very inconspicous way, the US seems to be playing the old protectionist’s game at the WTO arguing it will consider a watered down proposal of knowledge-sharing on health tech—a text with almost no resemblance to the original proposal made by India and South Africa, which would ensure maximum global production of vaccines and treatments, among other benefits to global South countries.

Keep your promise @joebiden
