How does the current vaccine apartheid contribute to gender-based violence?

On this November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Feminists for a People’s Vaccine campaign has partnered with the International Network to End Violence Against Women and Girls (INEVAWG) to ask some important questions. 🙋🏿‍♀️

The powerful geopolitical players still blocking the TRIPS waiver are known for their behind-closed-doors dealings and stealth moves, from the champagne rooms of Davos to the hallways of the WTO in Geneva.

What are the impacts of these efforts against vaccine equity in the daily lives of people across the globe, especially when considering intersected social markers such as gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, caste and migrant status?

Two years into the pandemic, rich countries continue to block the sharing of know-how and technology to produce vaccines. How does this affect the everyday lives of South Africans, Nigerians, Botswanians and other populations still battling the virus with vaccination rates below 10%?

What acts of gender-based violence occur due to this toxic brew of geopolitical powerplay, corporate domination of international trade and other complex interests?

For the next few days, we will be making these connections and shedding light on these issues.
